Practical information about Linköping

Flats : all kitchens are furnished with oven, refrigerator and even microwave. So that is great, you dont need to buy all those expensive electronic material when you move in !

Laundry : Each building has its own laundry room , which is usually underground. Here we have 4 washing machines plus some ironing machines and drying machines. We had some trouble first time we tried to do the laundry... ;-) We fullfiled 4 machines of clothes and detergent. 1st machine was ok, but the others, for some reason we didnt know, didnt want to work at all ! We've tried everything but nothing was working, so we just took out our dirty clothes and decided to use next time the only machine which was working. But this week we finally learnt how it works, luckily when we went to the laundry a neighbour was there so we asked him how to make the machines work , and it was so easy : you just have to push like crasy the window of the machine ! Ok we'll do that from now on ;-)

Garbage: We couldnt find the garbage room also the first week. Only a tiny room already full of packages... So we've put our garbage there also , thinking that it might not be the good place to put it... Later on we discovered the "magic place" for garbage ! All residential garbage is thrown into handy chutes (here it looks like a big tube with a cover, in the entrance hall) located on every apartment building level or a street corner of houses. The garbage is deposited, then promptly vacuum sucked underground across the city to the dump. The only garbage trucks you see in Sweden are commercial. That's why the city is so clean ! ;-)

Police : We havent seen any policeman yet since we arrived ! Very weird when you come from a "high secured country" like France ;-) same goes for Turkey ;-)
May be they are underground, just like the garbage ;-) Who knows !!!

Walking paths : watch out where you walk ! Here you have the normal road for cars , plus road for bike then Walking path , we just need to be careful to stay on our own path ;-) Bikes are very fast here !

Alcohol : If you want to buy alcohol you have to do that in special store called "System bolaget", which usually close early, like everything here ;-) So you'd better plan everything in advance ! I went there yesterday, but i could only afford couple of beers ! Very amazing , wine is double price compared to France ! So i think we're not going to drink too much alcohol here ! Only the one visitors will offer us ! ;-)
